‘The Gilmore Girls Revival’ News & Updates: ‘Wild’ Tribute Makes Reese Witherspoon and Cheryl Strayed Cry

"The Gilmore Girls Revival" series from Netflix has drawn mixed emotions from viewers, including celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and "Wild" author Cheryl Strayed. Her book "Wild" was prominently featured in the hand of Lorelai Gilmore in the "Summer" episode of the four-part "The Gilmore Girls Revival" series.

"Gilmore Girls," wrote MTV, has featured over 300 books in its original run of seven seasons. It is not surprising, therefore, that "The Gilmore Girls Revival" called "A Year in the Life" would also do the same. Lorelai Gilmore was shown binge-reading Cheryl Strayed's book "Wild" all summer. With that inspiration, she packs a bag and leaves look for a few days to go on the Pacific Crest Trail, just like what the book's main character did. Call it a new version of "Eat, Pray, Love," "Wild" became Lorelai's beginning to a journey of self-discovery.

When the episodes first aired the "The Gilmore Girls Revival", Cheryl Strayed was "gobsmacked and honoured." She profusely thanked "The Gilmore Girls Revival" creator and writer, Amy Sherman-Palladino, for the homage to "Wild." Actress, Reese Witherspoon, who starred in the "Wild" movie inspired by Strayed's book in 2014, was reportedly in tears.

"Like so many people, in Lorelai and Rory, I see pieces of myself, my mother, and my daughter," Strayed wrote on Instagram. "That scene when Lorelai wanders behind the closed store near the trail and looks out across the wild landscape then calls her mom? Took my breath away and made me cry. I reached for my daughter's hand and told her someday she'd understand why I was crying. She said, 'I understand already, Mom,'" Strayed was quoted as saying.

Huffington Post reported that "The Gilmore Girls Revival" was not received well by all quarters. The cast has had to defend the storyline against critics who say that the story has turned the characters from bad to worse.
