Even before the second installment of "The Maze Runner" is released, there is already a talk about the film's third franchise. Director Wes Ball, who will be helming "The Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" gives details on what fans can expect in the third series of the movie adaptation inspired from James Dashner's "Maze Runner" series.

According to Collider, the second franchise, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" picks up right where the first film left off. The ending of the first film showed Thomas along with his fellow Gladers escaping the Maze and being moved by the helicopter to safety. In the opening scene of the second movie, it features Thomas and the Gladers hopping off the same helicopter and making their way on a heavily guarded facility.

However, the case is different with the third film because Ball has already revealed that they will not be picking up where the second film ends. "This next one will be cool because we're gonna cut maybe a year later. Yeah, so it'll be cool. Some things have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger," Ball teased.

CinemaBlend reports that avid readers of the book series will be delighted because "Scorch Trials" has already incorporated several elements in the third book into its movie adaptation. Thus, the film will depart from its source material to adapt the one-year gap storyline.

Aside from giving fans idea about when the storyline will pick up, Ball also revealed that they are already working on the movie but shooting will start in February and the movie will be released a year after.

Balls disclosed that they are working for the third film to be better and cooler than the previous two films. He guaranteed that it will be a different movie. "It's gonna be a different kind of an engine, a different kind of genre almost and a different sort of color palette and terrain. It's gonna be cool. It's gonna be very, very cool I think," he said.

There is no location for the set yet, but the director suggested that they will probably film in Vancouver, Collider has learned. "We're not gonna be in the same kind of setting anymore. We're gonna go a little bit more future, do something a little gritty, a little film noir almost. It's gonna be cool."

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is the last installment of the series. It will hit theaters on Feb. 17, 2017. Meanwhile, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" will be released on Sept. 18, 2015.
