Are you planning to do your baby shopping soon? If so, do you have a list of what to buy and what not to? Do you think everything on your list is necessary for you to buy? If you have these questions running in your mind right now, then you've come to the right article, because we will be revealing the most important baby essentials that you need to buy, and what stuff you should avoid buying.

Infants need more of the basic stuff such as milk formulas, diapers, clothes, and linens. Compared to toddlers, you don't need to buy that many toys for now. For newborn babies, it is important for you to have feeding bottles, diapers, baby bags, and linens. For babies who are over 6 months old, you might need some additional baby gears such as nursery furniture, baby monitors, or a rocking chair. To help you out, here is some baby preparation stuff that you need to buy before your little one will arrive.

Nursery Furniture

For nursery furniture, it is necessary to have a crib for your baby to sleep in and some crib mattresses. Make sure their beddings are thick, soft, and comfortable for them to sleep in. You can buy comforters, small pillows, and cute and comfy blankets. It is best to get cotton-made beddings for 100% comfort for babies' skin.

Here are some other necessities that you can get for your baby.

  • Changing table. Having this in your baby shopping list is important because diaper change can be a handful at times, and it happens anytime in any day. Get a portable changing table for convenient travel.

  • Bassinet. This is only safe until the infant is 3 months old or at least 15 pounds.

  • Dresser/chest. This is for your infant's clothes and their linens.

  • Baby monitor. You can safely leave your baby in their room or crib for a few minutes with a baby monitor that you can check through an app on your phone.

Meanwhile, here is what you don't necessarily need:

  • A secondhand crib. It is best to buy a new crib for your baby because it is more sturdy and safe.

Linens

Babies are more gentle and sensitive especially newborn ones. Getting high-quality, skin-safe and soft linens is a must and you should have this on your priority list. To know what necessary linens to get, here are some ideas that you should make sure to put on your list.

  • Fitted crib sheets. Make sure you have enough fitted sheets for your baby's crib. It is best to have extra sheets in case pee, vomit, or poo will get into it. Make sure they are fresh, clean, and comfortable for your baby to sleep in.

  • Waterproof mattresses. Changing linen mattresses can be very hassling, so waterproof mattresses should be a must.

However, there are also certain linens that you need to avoid buying because they are unnecessary for infants. Here are just some of those:

  • Pillows. These are known for SIDS risk and are not good for newborn babies.

  • Mattresses with padding.

  • Sleep positioners.
