Parents can admit how tough parenting is. Raising their children while handling a 9-5 job can be a rough patch, and you might be needing help in raising your little ones especially during the day when you're out.

One thing that parents should be aware of is raising children can be expensive. The bigger they get, the more cost will incur in your life spending. This includes childcare and hiring a nanny of a babysitter to help you out in looking after your children.

According to a statistical study conducted by UrbanSitter, the national rates of hiring babysitters have increased to 5% since the last year, and they have continuously increased by more than 18% in the last five consecutive years.

When you sum up all your child costs, including food, daily care, clothes, and baby gear, include how much it would cost you to hire a babysitter, and you will end up at a sum of how expensive it is to raise a child in your convenience.

But the question here to most parents would be: how much will it cost you to get a babysitter?

For an average babysitter, it would cost you an average of $11 per hour for one child. This is for regions who is the least expensive in terms of cost of living. For two kids, it would go for an average price of $22. The rate of babysitter matters on what state or region you are in the country. The place where you live plays a huge factor in determining a babysitter's rate.

If you live on the West Coast, childcare and babysitters may be very expensive. It is because this area of the country has the biggest rate increase in the last five consecutive years. However, if you live in the south or southwest, babysitter rates and childcare may be more affordable because they have much lower rates.

According to UrbanSitter's statistics, here are the estimated cost and rates for babysitters in the following states:

  • Las Vegas has an average rate of $11 per hour for one child, $15 for two children.

  • San Antonio has an average rate of $12 an hour for one child, $13 an hour for two children.

  • Minneapolis has an average rate of $14 an hour for one child, $15 an hour for two children

  • New York City has an average rate of $18 an hour for one child, $20 an hour for two children.

  • San Francisco has an average rate of $20 an hour for one child, $22 an hour for two children.

If you happen to have more than two children, the general rule in the United States is adding $2 an hour per each additional child.

What Should You Look Into A Babysitter?

As parents, when getting a babysitter, you need to be specific in the qualities that you are looking for. Always remember that the qualities of a babysitter that you are looking for can make the cost increase because you are being more specific on these qualities for your babysitter.

Keep in mind that there is a huge difference in just hiring a high schooler compared to an experienced babysitter or nanny, and the credentials will always show up when they bill you for their services.

Babysitters who are age 18 and under can have an average charge of $2.5 an hour less than those who are 18 and above who have college degrees and specialized skills such as having a driver's license or fluency of a foreign language. The more credentials your babysitter has, the higher their rates are.
