Spring Equinox: How to Maximize Staying at Home

March 19 marks the start of spring all over America, and this is something new.

Typically, the spring equinox starts on March 20 or 21, but this is the first time in 124 years that it started earlier. This phenomenon could be caused by the leap year.

Since spring started one or two days earlier this year than in the previous years, it means an additional day for you to bond with your family, especially now that there is the coronavirus pandemic.

What are the activities that you can enjoy with your family at home to welcome the start of spring?

Get Your Green Thumb Working

The spring equinox is one of the best times of the year to start planting. This activity is a fun way to let children get their hands and to teach them patience - waiting for a plant to grow and bloom takes a lot of patience.

Spring Feasting

Some foods are best served to celebrate the coming of spring. You may serve eggs, early spring greens, seasonal local goods, shoots, sprouts, local bread, and many more. Preparing the food with the kids would be even more fun.

Celebrate Spring Creatively

There are a lot of arts and crafts that you can enjoy doing with your kids to celebrate the spring season.

Some of the activities are:

  • Create a spring nature table
  • Read books about spring
  • Make Easter ornaments
  • Decorate an Easter Tree
  • Paint with spring colors
  • Start a nature journal
  • Make Easter baskets

Bring Spring Scents Into Your Home

Light spring scented candles or let the essential oils do the work. Smelling nature scents helps send good vibes and relieve the body of daily stress that life brings.

Decorate Your House

Make good use of all the spring crafts that you did and decorate your house to celebrate the season of spring.

Stand an Egg

Legend has it that during the spring equinox, you can stand an egg on its end. Whether it is true or not, it is a good way for your family to kill time.

Meditate or Practice Yoga

Meditate to celebrate the beginning of a new season. During the equinox, dark and light are balanced. Meditate to have inner peace and balance in your life.

Restore Balance at Home

Cleaning is one of the best ways to restore balance at home and to welcome a new beginning. It is an excellent time to declutter and remove everything that does not spark joy.

Start Something New

As a new season begins, it is also a wonderful time to start something new in your life. Start a bucket list of the things that you want to do but have not yet done so.

Establish a Daily Routine

Spring signifies rebirth and renewal. By establishing a new routine or rhythm, it can help ease transitions, elevate productivity, and provide a framework for your daily tasks.

Besides the ones listed, there are still a lot of enjoyable things that can be done at home to celebrate the start of spring, or what we call spring equinox. It only takes is a little creativity and energy to welcome the beginning of a new season.
