Earth Day: How Your Kids Can Help

Earth Day falls on April 22 every year. It is a significant day for everyone because we are living on Earth. So it is important that we teach our kids how to take care of our planet. Here are tips on how to make Earth a better place to live in.

Earth Day.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Teach your kids to reduce carbon footprint. As much as possible try to lessen garbage that is being thrown away. Let them use cloth instead of tissue. Let them drink from water jug instead of buying bottled water. Remind them to bring eco bags and refrain from using nonbiodegradable plastics. Teach them to reuse containers once or twice before throwing them out.

Plant trees.

Let your children help the Earth by planting trees. The trees can help absorb more carbon dioxide and produce more clean oxygen that we can breathe in. Plants also absorb excess water from the surroundings, thereby preventing floods when there is a downpour of rain.

Save electricity.

Teach your kids to turn off lights or any appliance that consumes electricity. Tell them to unplug cords to save electricity. Apart from saving Mother Earth, you are also saving a lot on your electricity bill.

Preserve water.

Tell your kids to report to you when they see leaky faucets so you could have them repaired. Tell them to try to limit shower time, or better yet, ask them to turn off the shower when they are soaping. Just like electricity, it will save you tons when less water is wasted.

Garbage Separation.

Divide your trash into biodegradable and nonbiodegradable. And then teach your kids which trash goes into the biodegradable, and which one goes to the other. If possible, turn biodegradable to fertilizers that you can use to make soils in your plants more fertile.

Walk.

Let your kids walk or ride the bicycle when going to school (that is after the quarantine is lifted and school resumes!) instead of driving or riding the bus. These will lessen air pollution and are a good exercise for them.

Feed the Animals.

Allow your kids to feed your pets if you have one. This will make them feel that they are taking care of the Earth in their small ways. Not only it makes your kids happy, but the animals are happy too.

Use Glass Bottles.

Teach your kids to handle glass instead of using plastic bottles. Glass does not contain chemicals and is heat resistant. Apart from that, glasses do not absorb odors and flavors so it can be used for a longer period.

Donate Unused Things.

Help your children recycle things that they are not using anymore, and donate them to charities. It may be old clothes, bags, shoes, or toys. They may be old, but they may make someone else happy!
