The simple answer to this question is yes. Since babies are born with sweat glands, they are also capable of sweating.

Why do babies sweat?

Babies also need to perspire so that they can cool down when their body temperature is high. This reaction of babies' bodies helps them to not get overheated. The function of the babies' sweat glands is just the same as that of an adult.

Also, some experts say that babies suddenly sweat sometimes because they could be overdressed and get hot. The bodies of the babies are still immature that it adjusts to such temperatures.

Experts suggest that parents do not overdo cozying their babies to a warm environment like the wombs. Although it is a good idea to swaddle a newborn, Healthline says it is also possible not to overdo it.

Although generally, there is nothing to worry about, health experts say that there is also a time to check if there is something to be alarmed about. Here are some of the other reasons why babies are sweating:

  • Babies sweat because of deep sleep. When babies move through different sleep cycles, they reach the stage called very deep sleep. During this stage, babies ten to sweat excessively. There usually is no issue about this instance.
  • Babies sweat when they have a cold, infection, or fever. If your baby is not the type that sweats that much then suddenly started sweating, this could be a sign of cold or infection. It is best if the baby's temperature is checked and professional help is asked for medications.
  • When babies sweat excessively, they could be suffering from a condition called hyperhidrosis. Babies with this condition sweat excessively even when the temperature is cool. This condition may occur even when a baby is asleep or awake. Pediatricians take run tests to know if an infant has this condition.
  • When babies sweat when they attempt to eat, there is a possibility that they have congenital heart disease. This rare condition is estimated to be affecting only one percent of babies born. The sweating that babies experience is a way of the body to compensate for the heart problem.

When babies sweat, there could be several reasons for it. However, to address this, parents should first take some time what the babies need. If this does not help, then it must be time to seek professional care.
