How Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's Sweet Love Story Began

Joe Manganiello had admired Sofia Vergara even before she and her ex-fiance, Nick Loeb, broke up.

In May 2014, the 47-year-old actress and Manganiello first met at the White House Correspondents' Dinner when the "True Blood" actor first spotted Vergara across the room while walking, and he was immediately smitten.

Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara's first hello

Manganiello told SiriusXM's "The Jess Cagle Show" that the actress was wearing a dress that looked great on her, and he could not take her eyes off her. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Vergara's "Modern Family" co-star, approached the 43-year-old actor later that evening and told him that his friend Vergara wanted to come over and say hi to him.

The two ended up having a casual conversation.

Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara's first date

The pair had their first date one month later, and Manganiello flew from Los Angeles to New Orleans, because she was filming "Hot Pursuit" during that time, to make it possible. While they dated, the "America's Got Talent" judge said that he was casting doubt on having a relationship with Vergara.

He told "Haute Living" that on their first date, Vergara gave him every reason why they would never work out. He felt that he was too young and is an actor, and his wife was trying to talk herself out of going there because she had just gotten out of a relationship and wanted to be single.

Manganiello said that they knew right away about their feelings, and Vergara knew that she was screwed, so he told her that if she needs to be single, then Vergara has to do it during that time; she did not go for it. The actor said that they tried to stay away from being in love with actors and actresses if possible because they are afraid of being away from each other all the time.
