Skin Care Tips... Not For Moms, But For Babies

Babies seem so fragile, especially when they are newly born. Their entire being screams delicate, but especially their baby skin

According to experts, the skin of babies during birth have an immature skin barrier. That means it is highly susceptible to attacks.

Until they are two years old, baby skin remains delicate.

So just like moms who follow skincare routines, babies should have strict skincare as well.

Here are some skincare tips for babies:

Skin Care Tip #1: Giving baths should be minimal.

Unlike adults, babies have natural oils that are intact in the baby's skin. That is why there should only be 2 to 3 baths per week. 

Too many baths for babies will not only dry out their skin, but this will also ruining a protective layer used to protect babies from infection.

Baths should be minimal; however, cleaning the diaper area as often as needed is essential.

An important reminder is to keep the umbilical cord dry to avoid any infection.

Skin Care Tip #2: Be careful with the skincare products for the baby.

Scented baby products in the early months should be avoided. According to experts, this may irritate the baby's skin.

Products like tear-free soap or shampoo can be an excellent choice to avoid irritation of the baby's eyes.

To guarantee the baby's safety, parents should find time to check the labels and know the ingredients in the baby products they have chosen. 

Skin Care Tip #3: Keep the baby's clothes clean

To ensure that the baby's skin is free from rashes or any skin irritation, parents should always keep baby's clothes washed adequately. The detergent should be dye-free and scent-free as well.

Baby's other belongings should also be kept clean. Their clothes, beddings, and blankets should be washed separately from other family members' belongings to ensure that it is clean.

Skin Care Tip #4: Understand and follow the diaper basics.

Most of the time, skin problems occur in the diaper area of the babies. That is because this area is directly in contact with the poo and pee of the baby.

Frequent cleaning of this area is a must. Parents should also check the products being used in cleaning this area.

Some experts also suggest that parents use a rash cream.

Another helpful tip to adequately care for babies' skin is to give a few minutes of diaper-free time.

Skin Care Tip #5: Protect the baby from the UV Rays.

Direct exposure to the sun may irritate the baby's skin. If there is a need to have a short walk outside, make sure that the babies are protected from the UV rays. Parents can do so by using sun covers like hats and umbrellas. There is not much need for sunscreen lotions at this early age.
