5 Easy Ways to Wear Face Masks Comfortably (Even During Summer)

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is continuously advising the public to wear face masks. CDC says wearing masks is a step that will stop the further spread of the coronavirus.

Wearing masks is becoming part of the new normal. However, because this is not a habit that everyone is used to doing, it sometimes becomes uneasy for some.

Here are some tips on how to wear masks comfortably:

Avoid wearing masks tightly

Because no one wants respiratory droplets to come in the mouth and nose area, some people tend to put their masks tightly. If the mask is worn too tightly, there will be little room to breathe well.

Also, everyone should be wearing masks in a manner that you are no longer in need of adjusting it. Not doing so will only cause you to remove it in public and readjust it.

Change if necessary

Aside from keeping yourself away from the coronavirus through the mask, hygiene can help avoid catching the virus.

If the mask is disposable, it should be thrown properly. Experts say that once the masks already became wet, for whatever reason, it should not be used anymore.

Whenever you feel the need to change the mask for various reasons, do not hesitate.

That is why it would be best always to keep an extra face mask when going out during the coronavirus pandemic.

If you are using a cloth face mask, this should be washed once you come back home.

Choose comfortable cloth face masks

There are a lot of options on the style of face mask that you may use. Whatever the form is, the primary consideration should be to breathe properly while wearing the mask.

Allergy and immunology expert, Dr. Purvi Parikh, suggests that a lightweight mask should be used outdoors. Dr. Parikh adds that cotton fabric is more breathable than synthetic materials. What is essential is that the mouth and nose are completely covered to avoid coronavirus.

Watch your temperature

When wearing a mask, a person tends to experience shortness of breath. That causes heat to build up in the body.

Experts warn that too much heat in the body may cause heatstroke or heat exhaustion. To avoid leading to such, you must avoid being in direct sun for too long. Dr. Parikh also suggests that everyone should always be hydrated. It should not only be coronavirus that the public should worry about.

Avoid skin irritation

There are two reasons as to why skin is irritated when wearing masks. The first is the type of material of the mask. Cotton is one of the most advisable materials for face maks.

Second is the amount of pressure against the face. The mask should be worn loosely to avoid skin irritation.

Health experts say that masks should always be clean to avoid bacteria that may contribute to skin irritations like acne.
