Kids are innocent, but their most innocent thoughts are sometimes the noblest.

Just like the 6-year-old girl from Wymondham, Norfolk in the United Kingdom who says she is trying to save the world by litter picking.

Olivia Shannon got inspired by the projects that she had in school, so she insisted that she could do something. She said, "I'm making an attempt to save the world, and creatures, so it's a higher place to reside."

The road to saving the world

Olivia began her journey to save the world by buying a litter-picker. She was with her parents at a garden center, and she spotted the litter-pickers and used her pocket money to purchase this. Olivia says she wanted to make sure that the world will be saved from the infliction of plastic waste.

The 6-year-old earth saver went on a six-kilometer (four-mile) litter-picking, just recently. She continues to hope that with her simple acts, the world will be "a better place to live."

Olivia was joined by her mom and dad when she picked litter around Wymondham.

The proud father

Aside from being Olivia's chaperone during the litter-picking, his father Matt Shannon is also a proud guy.

In an interview with the BBC, he said that since recent times is very uncertain, he finds his daughter's act as inspiring. He says that his daughter's actions have made other people happy despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Matt also shared that it was Olivia's interest in ocean turtles that made her want to save the earth.

Matt shared, "Olivia is a great lover of the ocean turtles and was very sad to see that some of these get entangled in plastics out at sea."

The projects in her school, Robert Kett Primary School, made her very interested in taking care of the environment.

Olivia's school is also very proud of her achievements.

Simple ways "to save the earth."

A group called Keep Britain Tidy says that it is fantastic to see as young as the six-year-old Olivia to want to do something for the environment.

The deputy executive of the group, Richard McIlwain, has two ways to reduce the amount of litter. The first is not to drop the litter, and the second is to be like Olivia.

According to McIlwain, Olivia is passionate enough to offer her time to save the world, a person that everyone should be like.

The plastic pollution around the world

According to the Earth Law Center, pollution caused by plastic is a threat to ocean ecosystems. Data from the World Bank shows that in 2016 alone, the world generated 242 million tons of plastic waste.

Studies have shown that if the plastic pollution is not solved, by 2025, for every 3 tons of fish, there could be a ton of plastic.
