Police Dog and Handler Was on Their First Deployment When They Found Mom and Baby on a Steep Ravine

A mom and her baby spent the night outdoors earlier this August. They got lost, and concerned citizens reported the incident to the Dyfed-Powys Police.

Luckily, PC Peter Floyd and Police dog Max found the mom and baby.

This story becomes even more exciting as the police dog, Max, is newly licensed, and finding the mom and baby was his first task.

The search for the mom and baby

According to Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones of the Wales police, there was a deep concern for the mom and baby's whereabouts. It was because the mother had not been seen by the people who know her for two days. In addition to that, the phone of the mother was unreachable.

Several teams were dispatched for the search. The mom's vehicle was immediately found, but the search area was still quite large.

Aside from the first teams that were dispatched, help from the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and an NPAS helicopter was utilized.

Inspector Rees-Jones said, "Extensive searches of the area were undertaken by officers, supported by specialist assets such as the dog unit and the NPAs helicopter, with advice from a police search adviser."

After more than an hour, the mom and baby were found near a steep ravine close to the mountainside.

According to authorities, "They were safe, but cold, and appeared to have been in the area for a significant amount of time."

The Police Dog Max guided his handler PC Lloyd when they found the mom and the baby near the ravine. They were waving for help to the officer and Max when they were seen in the area.

Immediately, the rescue teams checked on the condition of the mom and baby.

Officials say that a big chunk of the success in finding the two should be credited to Police Dog Max and PC Lloyd because they searched a significant area that led to finding the mom and the baby.

The police dog and handler's first day

Even if it was the first operational shift of the duo, they already put their training into action.

Max is a two-year-old German Shepherd. As a police dog, his purpose is to locate and track people, discarded property, and detaining suspects. He is trained to find even in buildings and open air.

PC Lloyd, on the other hand, joined the dog section of the Dyfed-Powys Police in February.

Lloyd said that he is very pleased with their accomplishment on their first deployment. He credited the success to Max, saying, "Max remained focussed throughout the long search, and he proved invaluable when he reacted to the call for help, which resulted in us locating them."
