How to Measure Ring Size: You Could Do It Conveniently at Home

How to measure ring size? This is fairly easy for jewelry stores as they have ring sizer on hand. However,  how about if you are quarantined at home, and then you found the perfect ring while doing online shopping? It would be too burdensome to go all the way out just to have your finger measured, right? 

Thankfully, you could do it at the convenience of your homes. While it might not hurt to have a small difference in size, it would be better to have the exact ring size, especially for everyday use. 

A popular fine jewelry store in Brooklyn, New York City's Catbird, explained the best size of ring you should wear. It stated that the ring should fit comfortably on your finger. The jewelry should snug enough to prevent falling off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance.

US ring sizes usually follow size three to 13.5 for adults. They come on a scale of numbers and half numbers. Women ring sizes usually range from sizes three to nine, while men ring sizes range from eight to 14.

Before you measure your ring size, here are some tips to consider. 

Check your knuckle

Order a half size bigger if your knuckle is on the larger side so that you could slide the ring smoothly. 

Try different sizes 

Based on Catbird's website, you should measure your finger three to four times. Usually, ring sizes differ due to outside temperature. Our fingers could become smaller when it is cold, and swollen when hot.

How to measure ring size at home

There are three common and easy ways to know your ring size at home. You could either use a string, a ring size chart, or a ring sizer. 

Using string or floss 

To measure your ring size using a string or floss, wrap them around the base of your finger. Place a mark on the part of the string that overlaps with the starting string. Line it with a ruler, then take note of the length in millimeters.

Using a ring size chart

You may use a piece of ring that you own in a ring size chart. Print out a true-to-size ring size chart and place your ring on the circles. Take the size of the one that matches with your ring.

Having your ring sizer at home guarantees you of getting the exact size that you want. You could order from many online sellers so you do not have to leave home to have one. You could choose either a thin measuring tape or a keyring that is lined with ring sizes gradient.
