Mom of 3 Started with Walking to Lose Weight – See Her Inspiring Transformation

A Louisiana mom first started by just walking to lose weight and then graduated to doing workouts and counting her calorie intake. See her incredible transformation one year later.

Georgia Malbrough is a stay-at-home mom. She has lived most of her life feeling insecure about her weight. According to Inspire More, when Georgia was young, she would wear her brother's baggy shirts to hide the extra weight she had been carrying. She recalled that when she was six years old, they had to special order cheerleading uniforms for her because she was a size 10. It didn't help that she developed unhealthy eating habits too, when she got older.

In 2018, she gave birth to her third child and weighed more than 200 pounds. That same year, she and her partner got married. She told Today that she broke down just before getting dressed. That was when she felt she had enough of being overweight and being unable to keep up with her kids. She then vowed to return to the same beach as a changed woman.

 

Walking to lose weight: one step at a time

However, Malbrough knew it wasn't going to happen overnight, so she did it one small step at a time. Her journey to getting fit and healthy started with walking. She said that on the first day she baby wore her newborn and walked for about one mile. Then she graduated to two miles and so on. She did it consistently for three months.

After that, she turned to workouts. She started with the treadmill and then she searched online for workout routines that she could incorporate. Now, her workout routines include kettlebell exercise - which is her favorite -, 20 minutes of strength training and 20 minutes of cardio exercises. Her journey is well documented in her social media which has already inspired thousands of followers.

Calories are not created equal

She also followed a calories in, calories out plan. She says the only way to remove body is to burn more calories than you consume. However, that didn't mean that she completely avoided certain food like king cake, ice cream, or gumbo. "I refuse to live without it," she said.

Registered dietician, Keri Glassman, did caution those subscribing to counting calories that not all calories are created equal. It can be a good plan for those who are starting a diet but may not be the best plan for everyone. A certain amount of calories may not provide the same nutrients that other food with the same amount of calories can provide. Moreover, hormones also play a role in our cravings and how we metabolize food.

One year later, Malbrough is 100 pounds lighter and looks much healthier than she was 231 pounds ago. So, how did it feel going back to the beach with her new toned body? She said she never felt more proud of herself and she also saw the pride in her husband's eyes. "It was fantastic."
