Arizona Dad Gets Hundreds of Job Offers After Giving out Resume on the Street

An Arizona dad, Patrick Hoagland, received hundreds of job offers after he handed out copies of his resume on the streets. He got laid off from a metal recycling company, and it hit his family hard financially.

Hoagland told "Good Morning America" that he had fears because both he and his wife do not make a lot of money. Because he got laid off, all the burden was placed on his wife. He sent out his resume countless times online, but he did not hear anything from companies.

Stood on the streets due to frustrations

Hoagland decided to stand on a street corner under the 110-degree Phoenix heat to give out his resume to the passersby. He said that he was getting frustrated since he was not getting any responses online.

Hoagland came up with the great idea of holding a sign and handing out copies of his resum at a corner of the street. He first laughed about the idea but then it went "kind of crazy." For three days, Hoagland stood on a street corner for a few hours a day.

Someone shared his resume online

Hoagland holds a sign that says "please take a resume," then he also wrote that he is looking for a job. Melissa DiGianfilippo, the owner of a PR firm, accepted a copy of his resume. She posted a copy of it on Facebook because she was so impressed by the dad's tenacity.

She figured that she has a pretty wide network so she decided to share it on social media to help Hoagland. She saw the man as she was driving down Camelback Road near her office. He was holding a sign with a huge smile on his face while standing in 110-degree heat.

Hundreds of job offer poured in

DiGianfilippo loved that Hoagland was not asking for a handout; instead, he was just asking people to consider him for a job. After her post, job offers started pouring onto Hoagland's LinkedIn page. He eventually got hired as a concrete grinder at Flatline Concrete.

He was glad that the company reached out to him over email phone because it was his dream job scenario. He could not thank everyone enough because some sent him messages that were not job offers.

Many people sent him well wishes on his job-seeking journey. He said that it was nice to see that.

Genuine people helping the needy

A lot of people have been laid off due to the pandemic. While not everyone is lucky enough to get a job with Hoagland's strategy, his story is a great example that there are genuine people who want to help those who are in need.

While filling out applications online can be quite frustrating, one should never lose hope in finding a job. There are still a lot of people who want to help those who are willing to work hard to get back on their feet.
