Couple Finally Welcomes Baby Girl After Having 14 Sons

A Michigan couple finally welcomes a baby girl after having 14 sons and three decades after their first baby was born.

Jay and Kateri Schwandt, both 45, have been famous for having 14 boys and have been the subject of local and national news every time a new baby arrives, Detroit Free Press noted. And every time they were expecting, the news organizations would then ask whether the next one would be a girl.

Their first-born was Tyler, who is now 28. Tyler was followed by Zach, Drew, Brandon, Tommy, Vinny, Calvan, Gabe, Wesley, Charlie, Luke, Tucker, Francisco, and Finley. They have a live streaming program named 14 Outdoorsmen.

Overjoyed and beyond excited

On November 5, Kateri gave birth to a healthy baby girl they named Maggie Jayne; she weighed 7weighs 7 pounds, 8ounces, is 20 inches long. The Schwandts said they are overjoyed and beyond excited to add the newborn baby girl to their family.

According to Tyler, 12 hours have already passed since his dad told them of the great news, but he still hasn't quite "wrapped my mind around it." Yet, even his parents never thought that they would end up having a little girl. As with all their previous pregnancies, the couple opted not to know the baby's gender until delivery.

They are not prepared for this

He said that he was not sure if his parents have even prepared any names for a baby girl. The name Maggie, he said, was based on his mom's middle name, Margaret, and Jayne was a variation of his dad's name.

Asked what would be the biggest adjustment for the boys, Tyler said that would be to remember to put the toilet seat down. That may take years, though, he said, because the house has for so long been full of boys that they have not been used to the idea of what it is like to be a girl.

Jay and Kateri started dating when they were still attending Gaylord High School and Gaylord St.Mary's. In 1993, the couple got married before they attended Ferris State University, and before they graduated, they already had three sons.

When Kateri announced that she was pregnant, she said that if they had a little girl, she would be the most spoiled and protected child her entire life, especially during her teenage years."

"This year has been memorable in so many ways," Jay said, "but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine."

Speaking to MLive, he said they never imagined it was possible because he thought that after having 14 boys, it was probably wasn't meant to be. He added that while he wants a girly girl, but with the fact that she has 14 brothers, she will probably be playing hockey and basketball and will get climb trees or hunt.

"I can't wait to go to a dance recital," the super excited daddy said, "or a daddy-daughter dance."

The Schwandts feel that 15 is the right number for them. Jay said that he could not imagine topping it. "This is it, and I'm totally fine with that."
