Parents Slam Mom Over Daughter's Bedroom Makeover

April, mom to a 1-year-old daughter was so excited to share her baby bedroom makeover on her Facebook wall. As the post was public, not only her friends, but also parent cops saw the photo.

Cupcake-Themed Bedroom Makeover Gone Wrong

The main focal point of the bedroom makeover was the geometric pink-and-Kmart Confetti Decal Stickers on the wall, 7 News reported.

But, parent cops were quick to spot something wrong with the picture. Apparently, these parents did not like the baby floor bed, Mirror UK reported.

"Just because floor beds are not popular in the Western World, does not mean it is wrong," responded April in the comments.

Further, the mom explained that the floor bed was placed on slats. She felt the need to update the post and comments as parents called on her for using a bed that can become a breeding ground for mold and bacteria as it is placed on the floor.

Minimalist Bedroom Idea

April revealed that her family believes in minimalism. Such concept, though popular worldwide, remain unacceptable for some. To each his own.

Indeed, the room showed a minimalist style with bare, only-essential furniture, and surfaces clear of clear. "This is very clearly not the room of a neglected child," April responded when critics accused her of neglect.

Some comments went as far as shaming the mom for not buying her child a bed frame. The mom revealed that her daughter co-sleeps with her at night on a bed with an actual, adult-size bed frame.

Several parents backed up the mom, saying she need not explain anything to anyone. They praised her for a beautiful bedroom makeover. Further, these parents comforted the mom saying, as long as she and her daughter liked the bedroom she plays in everyday, it is all that matters.

Montessori Bedroom Idea

April also explained that her family adopts the Montessori-style learning approach for their daughter. This includes styling the bedroom following Montessori guidelines of freedom of movement, mobility, and independence.

The mom added that the floor bed is used by her child for day naps and for play. "She turns it into a balance beam, roof for her cubby house, it is up to her imagination," revealed the mom.

Floor beds are recommended in a Montessori bedroom because it conveys the Montessori guidelines of respect. For example, it gives the child "a room that is on their level, created with their abilities in mind", Montikids revealed.

The Montessori floor bed makes it easy for babies and children to make their own choices without being limited by the presence or absence of their parents. They can easily scoot from the floor bed to read and play.

As long as the room is baby-proofed and offers educational activities, as evident in the photo shared by the criticized mom, then the child will feel empowered to do independent play.

While there are plenty of other ways to follow the Montessori approach for parents that do not agree with this concept, for parents that do adopt this method, it is a well-researched approach that does not harm or endanger babies.
