"The Boss Baby 2" release date is pushed back by six months to fill in the September 2021 slot for "The Bad Guys." The Boss Baby sequel was set to release on March 26, 2021. Instead, DreamWorks Animation confirmed the new Boss Baby sequel release date will be on September 17, 2021.

COVID-19 Pandemic Delays Boss Baby 2 Release Date

Families are excited over the sequel to The Boss Baby released in 2017. The first film alone earned over $500 million worldwide. The success of the film made Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation quickly announce the making of a sequel.

However, movie enthusiasts on Screenrant believe the delay is likely due to the ongoing pandemic. Pushing the theatrical release to the third quarter of 2021 offers some leeway for the pandemic to subside so families can safely watch the film on the big screen.

Several other film companies have also been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many adapted a dual release method that allows theaters and streaming companies to feature their films.

September 17, 2021 Release Date Slot Meant for Canned Film

Before "The Boss Baby: Family Business" took on the September 17, 2021 release date, there was another film that the previous slot owner, "The Bad Guys" replaced.
