Roderick shared how his 9-year-old daughter came up to him one day and said she was hungry. In response, the dad told his daughter to make some baked beans when asked how the dad told the child to use a can opener.

It dawned on Roderick that he had never taught his daughter how to use a can opener. But instead of teaching her how to do it, then letting the child learn, he thought of it as a teaching moment. He wanted his daughter to discover for herself how to use a can opener.

"Figure out what the inventor of the can opener was thinking when solving this problem," dad told his daughter. On the first try, the child gave up and told her dad to please open the can. But instead of doing things for his daughter, he wanted the child to learn and discover for herself how the manual can opener works.

Parents Concerned over "Six Hours" Viral Tweet

The 9-year-old eventually discovered how to open a can of beans using a manual can opener. Her dad, who had been working on a jigsaw puzzle, was keen on documenting his daughter's greatest achievement that rainy weekend.

"Somehow teaching my daughter how to work out using a can opener on her own, and seeing her overcome her frustration as the lid stood perfectly in the salutation of her efforts-somehow it turned into a version where I got accused of child abuse," responded Roderick to the public.

What people were concerned about was that his daughter struggled with the can of beans and can opener for 6 hours, Scary Mommy reported. But, the dad explained, 6 hours is the normal period between meals. In his tweets, it would appear his daughter was so focused on figuring out how the tool works.

Ken Jennings Defends Bean Dad

Ken Jennings and John Roderick co-host the podcast "Omnibus," which compiles strange-but-true stories. Jennings shared how he personally knows Roderick as a loving and attentive dad, Hollywood Reporter revealed.

The tweets were written with the skill of a storyteller, which Jennings backs up, saying, "Roderick often tells stories that are heightened-for-effect." Jennings also responded about the anti-Semitic posts, telling everyone that his co-host is "always pro-Israel" and said that the screenshots of the posts are not "actual opinion [he] has ever heard from Roderick."

Meanwhile, Roderick remains to co-host the podcasts "Friendly Fire," "Roderick on the Line," and "Road Work." He also remains the lead singer and guitarist of "The Long Winters," an indie rock band.
