Oklahoma Grandma Who Survived COVID-19 Celebrated Her 103rd Birthday, Was Surprised by Friends and Family

An Oklahoma grandma who survived COVID-19 celebrated her 103rd birthday. As a surprise, her friends and family prepared a birthday parade for her. 

She suffered from coronavirus last year and spent two weeks in the hospital.

Della Hathorne's friends and family surprised the Oklahoma woman in a socially-distant celebration.

According to reports, Hathorne has more than 100 great-grandchildren. She is also blessed with seven children and 26 grandkids.

Oklahoma grandma who survived COVID-19

After being released from the hospital last October, the Oklahoma woman was interviewed by KOCO News 5. She said that after spending two weeks in the hospital, recovering, she became very appreciative, blessed, and thankful for being given a chance to spend more time with her family.

While suffering from the disease, her relatives recalled that she looked frail. His son Lorenzo shared, "She just looked like she had no energy couldn't move."

The family was very thankful that she survived the deadly virus. Since many of those who succumbed to death due to complications brought by COVID-19 were elderly and those who had preexisting conditions, the family is very thankful. Lorenzo said, "Can't believe it. Because all of the rules are you don't make it through if you're a certain age because it's hard on them."

Celebrating her 103rd birthday

The Oklahoma woman celebrated her 103rd birthday last January 30. This day, she looked forward to spending with family and friends, just like the holidays.

Because it is indeed a special day for Della and her family, the loved ones of this Oklahoma grandma who survived COVID-19 decided to surprise her with a parade.

Surprised by friends and family

A birthday parade in Guthrie, Oklahoma, was prepared for Della by her loved ones.

While outside her home, she watched as cars passed by, one by one. Friends and family filled the cars with banners and balloons, and the people in the vehicles greeted the Oklahoma grandma who survived COVID-19.

Della was very emotional when she saw the surprise. She told KOCO News 5, "I didn't know that they were gonna do all of that."

Tears from the surprise

As all of her friends and family greeted the 103-year-old Oklahoma grandma, she kept telling herself that she would not cry. One relative told Della instead, "Well, that's what you have sleeves on your jacket so you can wipe your tears with that."

Instead of holding back her tears, Della did so.

For her family and friends, the 103-year-old grandma deserved the surprise birthday parade, "She does everything for everybody else's. It's time to do something for her."

The Oklahoma grandma shared her secret in living a long and happy life. She said, "Treat everybody right, treat everybody the same, and then try to eat good."
