Young Girl Wants to Change Her Name, Raises Money to Do So

A mom went viral on TikTok to share her five-year-old daughter's decision to change her name from Charlie to Charlotte.

The TikTok mom, whose name on TikTok is @bri_mom3, posted a series of videos on how her daughter, a young girl, wants to change her name from Charlie to Charlotte.

The story, which Bri shared in honor of Women's History Month, has gained significant traction and trended online with hundreds of thousands of views.

Choosing Charlie as their daughter's name

As the mom explained, she and her husband chose Charlie's name because they loved the name. She also said that when she looks at her daughter, she looks like a Charlie to her. And for Bri, her daughter is her Charlie girl.

But as her daughter grows up, the young girl wants to change her name. She realized that she does not like the name that her parents have given her. So, the young girl wants to change her name, and she decided to do something about it.

Bri shared how her daughter convinced her about changing her name. She said that Charlie wrote her a very persuasive letter on why she should change her name Charlie to Charlotte at just five years old.

Since the young girl wants to change her name so severely, her mission did not stop there. She also researched and learned that for someone to change your name in the state of Indiana and you are a minor, you have to go to court, pay around $200, and have your parents sign off on the change.

Since knowing those details, Charlie then started raising her own money. Bri said that her daughter came home from cheer with $80 from selling bracelets. The TikTok mom also added that Charlie kept raising money until she hit $150.

From Charlie to Charlotte

The young girl wants to change her name so much that she goes as far as to ask her grandpa to make her a customized and personalized "Charlotte" backpack. She also has been going by "Charlotte" for a year now at school. Aside from these, she also wrote an opinion piece on why she wanted to change her name from Charlie to Charlotte and why Charlotte is a better name than her previous one.

Mom asks for opinions on TikTok

After all these, Bri was torn on whether she and her husband should legally change their daughter's name from Charlie to Charlotte. To gather her thoughts and seek other opinions aside from her own, she looked at her TikTok video's various comments. In the comment section, users were in full support of the name change.

One user said that if she let her daughter change her name from Charlie to Charlotte, her name will be a constant reminder that she can do anything she puts her mind to anytime. Another intelligent comment from a user even said that they should change it to Charlotte since Charlie can always be a nickname.

With all these comments and her daughter's efforts, Bri said that she and her husband both agreed and took the name change more seriously.
