Technology can be good, bad, or ugly. While you are mature enough to understand how to use technology for your benefit, your kid is yet to develop such understanding. Hence, protecting them from falling into the deep pit of technology is totally your responsibility.

In a world where we are surrounded by technology, it may seem like a daunting task. But with a few easy tips and tricks, you can safeguard your little one from gadgets.

Here are a few tips that will help you keep your kids away from gadgets.

  • Keep a check on the screen time

While it is not possible or even necessary to keep your kid completely away from the screen, keeping a check on the screen time is essential.

If your kid is fond of watching TV or playing video games, they can get addicted to these gadgets in no time. Hence, allow them only a few fours in front of the screen.

Let them know that they will get only one or two hours to sit in front of the screen each day. Let them select the slot to foster the decision-making skills and confidence in them, but you determine the maximum screen time for them.

  • Protect your devices with a password

The intelligent kids of today know how to operate every gadget, be it a mobile phone or a laptop. Even toddlers know how to give voice commands in their cute, babbling voice.

The best way to keep these devices out of the reach of your kids is by protecting them with a password. So, the next time when your kid wants to use your mobile or laptop, they will need your permission.

  • Make the devices unavailable

You weren't around, so your kid started watching television. Kids jump at these opportunities and use them to their optimum.

The best way to tackle this issue is by making the devices unavailable. If your kid plays a lot of video games, hide the remote. If they love to spend time on your iPad, lock it up in your wardrobe.

  • Indulge your kid in other activities

There are n numbers of fun things for kids to do, but they find pleasure only in gadgets. As a parent, think of creative ways to pull your kid out of that gadget-dominated routine.

Plan a family game time with your kids. Take up an art and craft project with them. Introduce them to emotional intelligence toys.

Encourage them to read more. Take them to the library. Bring picture books, activity books, and books with stuffed animals for toddlers. Indulge in coloring or painting with them. Get a musical instrument and play it with them.

Just keep their hands full.

  • Take your kid outdoors

Ever since gadgets knocked on our doors, we have almost forgotten to go outdoors. And as kids follow our example, we are more to blame. Fortunately, the wrong can be undone.

Encourage your kid to spend time outdoors. Take them to parks or playgrounds. Encourage them to take up any sport- football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, or cricket. It won't just make them physically strong but boost their mental and emotional health too. It will help them broaden their outlook and learn many life lessons, like teamwork and sportsman spirit.

Take them for camping or trekking, and introduce them to nature. Also, introduce them to organic farming and gardening.

The bottom line

Inculcating healthy habits in kids is easier said than done. With the advent of gadgets, it has become even more difficult. We hope these tips help you in breaking the vicious bond between your kid and technology.
