Ireland Baldwin Defends Father, Alec Baldwin, Amid Hateful Comments Over 'Rust' Shooting

Ireland Baldwin has received hateful comments on social media after her father, Alec Baldwin, was involved in a shooting accident on the set of "Rust," which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

In a post on Instagram, the 26-year-old model highlighted a beautiful message she received from someone who worked with her father. Ireland implied that Tracy Nolan's message, which spoke of Alec's concern for his daughter, stood out because it showed how Ireland sees her father amid the "most abhorrent and threatening" comments on social media.

Shortly after the "Rust" accident made headlines, Ireland was one of the first people to post her sympathies for Hutchins' family as well as the loved ones of director Joel Souza, who was also hurt on the set. Ireland said that she wishes she could hug her father "extra tight" at that moment.

Ireland Slams Candace Owens

Ireland, who is Alec's eldest daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger, called out conservative pundit Candace Owens who tweeted that what happened to the actor was "poetic justice" after four years of portraying former President Donald Trump as an evil murderer on television. Alec accidentally discharged a prop gun aimed at the camera where Hutchins was standing, as he was told it didn't have any live bullets.

Taking offense towards Owens, Ireland replied to the now-deleted tweet and called the TV personality the "most disgusting, hateful, cancerous human being." She also said that Owens' comment is disrespectful to someone who died in a tragic accident.

Ireland further urged people on her social media account to unfollow Owens because she is hurting people with her "hatefully ignorant" opinions. Owens shot back by posting their heated private messages to each other, adding that she does not feel bad for Ireland's "psychopathic father."

Alec Leaning on His Family

Alec's other family members have also voiced their support for the 63-year-old actor. His brother, Stephen Baldwin, asked for prayers for everyone involved in the accident. Hailey Bieber, Alec's niece and Stephen's daughter, said that she is heartbroken about what happened.

According to TMZ, Alec has been seen with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their young children in Vermont after he left the "Rust" set in New Mexico. Reports described Alec as looking "sullen and downcast" as they bought pizza for lunch. He has been leaning on his family during this trying period in his life.

Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza said that the actor has been cooperating with the police investigations and he has spoken to the families of the victims, especially Hutchins' husband. No one has been charged for the death but criminal defense experts believe that at least two crew members will be liable for involuntary manslaughter for not inspecting the prop gun Baldwin tested. If charged, those liable could be in prison for up to 18 months.

Hollywood experts, on other hand, said that the accident was totally preventable. Alec might not be imprisoned for misfiring the gun but he could be charged as one of the producers who failed to uphold safety guidelines on the set.
