Millions of people celebrate Valentine's Day by giving gifts to the special people in their lives, but some parents believe it's also important to show compassion for strangers in need during this special day of love.

In this pandemic, many people are dealing with challenges or despair. Fortunately, some organizations could help families extend their kindness and thoughtfulness to people, young and old alike, who might need a pick-me-up with a bit of token or gift for Valentine's Day.

Here are some Valentine's Day ideas on where to send gifts to kids or elders in need:

1. AARP's Cupid Crew

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP's) Cupid Crew has a Wish of a Lifetime initiative run by volunteers who give cards and letters to isolated seniors. The cards can be selected and then downloaded from the official site of Wish of a Lifetime.

Print these cards or add more personalized messages to drop off or mail at senior communities in the local area. The kids may also give Valentine's Day cards to their grandparents or elderly neighbors.

2. St. Jude Children's Hospital

Across the country and the world, medical and care facilities dedicated to kids or the elderly are likely preparing their Valentine's Day celebrations. They would appreciate receiving some handmade cards, letters of encouragement, or small tokens like books or toys for the patients.

At St. Jude Children's Hospital in Tennessee, families may send a card with a special note, at no cost, for kids with cancer or other life-threatening illness. Messages may be written online using a card template, and families can send as many messages as they like.

Incidentally, Texas Children's Hospital, one of the country's best children's hospitals, also runs an annual Valentine's Day card drive online for free. For 2022, the theme is Rodeo. Visit the hospital's official site for the details.

3. Hearts for Kids from HIS Radio

HIS Radio in North Carolina accepts Valentine's Day letters, cards, goodies, or gifts personally delivered to the local hospitals for children. Over the past decade, this imitative has been well-received by community and church groups near the region. This pandemic has made it slightly impossible to collect and distribute, but as pandemics restrictions are easing off, HIS Radio staffers hope to receive more homemade cheer packets.

For many children, spending time at the hospital is sad and difficult. But Valentine's Day is that one special time when the kids can forget about their sickness and enjoy the love they receive from kind-hearted strangers.

4. Love in Action Project

Also based in North Carolina, the Love in Action Project aims to deliver more than 5,000 Valentine's Day cards to nursing homes across the state. Many senior residents love to receive these cards as it curbs their sadness and loneliness and boosts their mental health. This will be the 11th year of the distribution from the organization.
