Three months after her daughter's sudden demise, Chris Daughtry and his wife Deanna posted on Instagram their gratitude and appreciation for their "household, mates, and Daughtry followers."

Deanna also shared that there were days she wanted to "conceal in my bubble and be alone if I'm not loving on my husband and kids." However, she also said that she is aware that "the world doesn't cease for our grief," Chris and Deanna told Today.

'Generous and Loving' Stepdaughter Hannah Price

The couple lost Hannah Price, Chris' stepdaughter, on November 12 in her Tennessee home. Authorities ruled the cause of death as suicide while under the influence of narcotics, the Daughtry family revealed. They added that Price struggled with mental illness at a young age and was in and out of therapy and treatment centers.

Chris said that Hanna struggled to find her balance as she got older, started using drugs, and got in and out of relationships. Months after Hannah lost her biological father to suicide, Chris said that Hanna got shot in the face. The family did everything they could to support her and help her recover from the tragedies.

Chris shared in the interview that they also made plans for her to seek treatment and move closer to the family. On the day of her death, Chris shared that Hannah called them, telling them that she feared for her life after her boyfriend allegedly physically abused her and took her car.

The family called the Fentress County Police Department for a welfare check, but the police determined that Hannah was fine before 1 PM. She

was later found dead by her boyfriend, who later called 911. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities determined the official cause of death with no evidence of foul play.

Coming to terms with grief

Deanna said that she slowly accepted what she could not change. She told Today that she has come to terms that Hannah is gone and the world is not stopping for her. "I'm accepting where I am in this process at this moment," she posted on her Instagram account.

Deanna shared in her post that the grief is "confusing and hard," but she shares her thoughts with the hopes that it could help someone deal with the same stuff and not feel so alone.

Dealing with mental health and addiction issues in the family

Deanna also wished she could go back in time and do things differently. She said that she spent more time being present with her "as she was, and less time trying to save her." Perhaps by doing so, the mom wrote, "maybe then she would have felt worthy enough to save herself."

Chris also advised families of loved ones with mental illness and drug addiction to seek help.

Millions of young adults have mental or substance use disorders in the U.S., and many do not realize it. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 8.9 million young adults reported having a mental illness in 2018, while 5.1 Million have substance abuse disorder.
