Bill Hader, Anna Kendrick Romance: Comedian Won't Publicly Talk About New Relationship Due to His Kids

Former "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) mainstay Bill Hader has refused to talk publicly about his rumored romance with "Pitch Perfect" actress Anna Kendrick because he wants to respect his three kids from his previous marriage.

In a report on The Hollywood Reporter, Hader excused himself from opening up about his new relationship. The actor explained that his children just want to look up to him as the dad who likes to watch "Encanto" over and over with them.

Hader shares three daughters, Hannah, 13, Harper, 10, and Haley, 8, with ex-wife Maggie Carey, a writer and director. The ex-couple has been divorced since 2017 after 11 years of marriage.

Bill Hader is Friends with His Ex-Wife

Hader and Carey's divorce was amicable and was completed after three months of court litigations. The star of "Barry" said in an interview with Variety that he is fortunate to have maintained a good friendship with Carey, despite the end of their marriage.

Two years after their divorce, Hader decided to quit his lucrative job on SNL because he wanted to focus on his daughters. The actor revealed that he decided to give up on SNL when he realized he spent a total of five days with his children one summer. From then on, he committed to be with them every single day for their summer breaks.

Just like mom guilt, Hader had dad guilt over the fact that he missed a lot of moments with his children growing up. He almost teared up in the interview, explaining why he's choosing family over his career.

"It's this weird thing when you're in this industry, you don't have time to be with them, and it's really, really difficult," the actor said.

But quitting SNL also gave Hader a restart in his career since he landed "Barry," the dark comedy series with HBO. He also had some time to devote to doing movies instead of just doing his weekly TV series.

Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick's New Romance

In January 2022, People broke the story of Hader and Kendrick's romance. They worked on the Disney+ Christmas movie, "Noelle," in 2019 but have been friends for a while since they were also in the 2013 film "The To-Do List" together.

The source explained that Hader and Kendrick wanted to keep their relationship low-key despite their A-list status in Hollywood. They both see eye-to-eye when it comes to privacy, and it was easy to hide their romance for an entire year from the public because of the pandemic lockdowns.

Kendrick said during an Australian daily interview that she has always believed her relationships should be just for her. However, she acknowledged that it's hard to do because her work puts her in the spotlight.

Another source revealed that the couple has been spending their time together in the last year on hikes, weekend trips away from Hollywood, hanging out with friends, and watching many movies. The source said that Kendrick has bonded with Hader's daughters.
