A Texas mom in an Easter bunny costume allegedly gave out condoms to some elementary students at the Gullett Elementary School after classes were dismissed Thursday, April 14. School officials asked her to leave the premises, but they said she continued with her activity by the sidewalk.

A spokesperson for the Austin Independent School District told CBS Austin that the mother's action was "incredibly careless and inappropriate," which prompted the school principal, Tammy Thompson, to write a letter to the school community. Thompson wanted to let the other parents know that this was an unsanctioned and unplanned distribution amid reports from the other parents whose kids were confused about why their Easter treats had another item other than candies.

The Austin ISD is considering filing charges against the Texas mom in an Easter bunny costume. They are also looking into how the safety protocols were breached on campus.

AISD Has No Sex Education Subjects

Currently, the school district does not have any curriculum about human sexuality and responsibility. The school previously had programs on sex education, which were introduced by the second grade and taught during health or P.E. classes between November and December.

However, the lessons were put on hold this school year as Austin ISD has been working on some revisions and updates on the sex education subjects to comply with new state laws, per WFLA. The school district said it will be implementing the revised lessons for the 2022-2023 school year if the Board of Trustees approves the changes.

Reports also cited that the mom in an Easter bunny costume works as a pharmacist and takes part in the safe sex drive of a local clinic. She came to the school that day to pick up her child, just like other parents.

Her actions drew criticisms from politicians, including George P. Bush, the state's attorney-general, who described her as a "radicalized leftist parent." Bush wrote on Twitter that the school district must be accountable for its failure to protect the school kids.

An Easter Egg Mix-Up?

However, Nathan Jensen, a professor at the University of Texas who is also a parent of one of the kids attending Gullett Elementary School, probed into the issue further after his kids got the condoms. The mom was in an Easter bunny costume because her safe sex clinic was conducting an Easter-theme celebration and didn't change when she picked up her child.

The mother was also "mobbed by the kids" because they thought she was giving away candies. When she ran out of it, she asked her husband to give her some more from their car. She didn't realize her husband gave her the wrong batches of eggs, according to Jensen's Twitter update.

Some netizens, however, do not believe the explanation about the Easter egg mix-up, but Austin ISD has not issued any more statements after Jensen's clarification.
