Texas authorities said that a nine-year-old Houston girl was "executed" and her mother was wounded when the woman's ex-boyfriend opened fire on them because he was upset about their split.

News station KPRC reported that the mom had been watching a film with her kids in their apartment when her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Jeremiah Jones, showed up unannounced on Monday night, June 13.

The pair, who had dated for eight months before breaking up a couple of months ago, got into a fight. Police said Jones accused the woman of talking to other men since they broke up. Cops added that he asked her to hand over her phone as they argued in the living room of her apartment.

Suspect executed young girl in bedroom

News station KHOU reported that the children were separated from their mother during the melee, and the 9-year-old kid ended up in a bedroom. Houston police Lt. J.P. Horelica said that Jones then went into the bedroom and intentionally "executed" the young girl, possibly as "revenge" for his breakup with the child's mother.

Horelica said since that relationship had ended between them, Jones was upset about it. Police added that the suspect returned to the mom after shooting the daughter and shot his former partner in the shoulder.

Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at 404 Oxford Street around 9:54 p.m. When the cops arrived at the scene of the crime, police learned there was a domestic disturbance between a man and woman.

Cops said the young girl, identified by her mom Brittany Sorrells as Khylie Sorrells, was shot in the head by the suspect. Both victims were taken to an area hospital, where the nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead. The dead child's mother was expected to recover from her gunshot wounds.

Jones arrested by HPD SWAT in Imperial Valley Drive parking lot

The woman's two other kids, ages 3 and 1, were also at home during the tragic shooting but were both unharmed, according to the New York Post. Authorities said that Jones had gotten into a dark Chevrolet Camaro and sped away when police arrived. He is now facing capital murder and assault charges. Houston cops said Sorrells made four calls to law enforcement officers about Jones within a month before this tragic shooting.

Cops said the suspect was out on bond for violating a protective order at the time of the shooting. Jones has an extensive criminal record stretching back a decade, including charges of reckless driving and theft. Sorrells reportedly had not seen the suspect in a few weeks and had ended her relationship with Jones two months ago.

According to the Houston Police Department, the 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. by HPD SWAT and Tactical officers in a parking lot in the 22300 block of Imperial Valley Drive.
