"Without Me" singer Halsey penned an essay that candidly talked about her pregnancy struggles before giving birth to her first child, Ender Ridley, who is turning one on July 14, 2022. The 24-year-old mom said she had to rewrite her will while pregnant to include new instructions in case her life would be at risk.

Before her pregnancy with Ender, Halsey suffered three miscarriages that made her rethink the other realities. She had endometriosis for years; thus, she had difficulty conceiving.

In her grief and fear, she updated her will with detailed instructions on organ donation should she die while pregnant. She implied that her beating heart should still amount to something if a baby's beating heart inside a mother's womb is also a sign of life.

In her essay with Vogue, Halsey noted that one of her miscarriages needed an "after care" because the pregnancy termination could not be completed on its own. The award-winning singer said she needed a medical abortion because she could die of sepsis without the procedure.

"I was desperate to end the pregnancy that was threatening my life," the mom said. However, the world she shared with her partner, Alev Aydin, changed when Ender was born. His arrival seemed to reduce the pain and loss she felt after all her miscarriages and abortion.

Halsey supports abortion despite becoming a mom

The singer also confessed that she thought her position about abortion would change now that she's a mother. However, she feels more strongly in favor of it because it saved her life and paved the way for her to have a son.

Thus, the mother advocates for abortion rights amid the Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v. Wade. While on her Love and Power tour, Halsey encouraged her fans to be advocates of reproductive rights as well.

According to The Cut, some of Halsey's fans left the concert because they didn't like her message in support of abortion. After the show, Halsey addressed the critics who said that people paid to watch her sing and not hear her political views. The singer retorted that she is paid to use the power of music to express her sentiments.

Halsey draws the line with "bad mom" jokes

Weeks before her essay on Vogue, Halsey also posted, in a now-deleted tweet, that she would not tolerate jokes about her being a bad mom. She said she needed to draw the line when talking to fans about her personal life.

Halsey has been embroiled in a legal tussle with Ashley Funches, her former nanny, who alleged that she was fired when she requested a leave of absence. Funches also claimed that she worked around the clock at Halsey's home without being paid the proper overtime wages, per People.

Halsey issued a statement to debunk the nanny's "baseless" claims, saying that Funches was fired because Ender was left unsupervised and unsafe during the nanny's watch. She also expressed sadness and disappointment about the allegations of unpaid overtime work.
