A new father has been caught on camera in his most vulnerable moment, collapsing in the delivery room as his girlfriend, Peyton Stewart, gave birth to their first child.

Stewart uploaded a 34-second video on TikTok to show the new dad getting wobbly and passing out next to his partner's bed. The clip also showed a couple of medical staff helping the dad, who was trying very hard to stay alert but couldn't handle what was happening.

He attempted to lean to the side of the bed and appeared to take deep breaths to recompose himself. The doctor and some nurses were looking at each other, and one of the staff got the cue to assist the dad, who was about to drop to the floor.

As a medic tried to put the passed-out dad on another bed, the doctor and the rest of the delivery staff continued dealing with the mom, who had the baby out of her womb by then.

New dad roasted on the internet for fainting

Social media had a frenzy in response to Stewart's video. They thought it was such a hilarious moment.

"The OB was staring [at the dad] like, 'man, c'mon!'" someone wrote in Stewart's TikTok comments.

"The way they just moved him out the way," another commenter said, adding five laughing emojis to the post.

"If you noticed, the mom's attention never left the baby," another person wrote, per 7 News. "That's the day he found out he came number two."

Stewart also replied to some of the comments with a laughing emoji, clearly amused by the roasting her boyfriend got. However, some were sympathetic to the new dad because he tried very hard to be in the moment.

A nurse also chimed in and said that dads fainting in the delivery room happen more often than anyone can guess. She usually keeps an eye out for the partners in case they pass out and hurt themselves.

Stewart revealed that it was her mother who filmed the birth of her daughter from beyond the screen but instead caught this golden moment with the new dad. Stewart said that her mother was also laughing like everyone else, per 7 News.

Why dads are in the delivery room

According to NPR, it wasn't until the 1960s that dads were allowed in the delivery room. Previously, they were stuck in the waiting rooms, dubbed the stork clubs, close to the labor area so they could hear their wives calling them if they needed something.

In her childbirth book, "Make Room for Daddy: The Journey from Waiting Room to Birthing Room," medical historian Judy Leavitt wrote that doctors did not want the fathers in the same room during the delivery. However, some groups of parents, including feminist movements, campaigned for a change in this policy, saying it was up to the mothers to decide if the father of their baby should or shouldn't witness and experience the birth.

Alongside this change, dads became more involved in the pregnancy by attending birthing classes with the moms. The birthing classes help fathers prepare for what to expect, including the bloody part of the delivery. Birthing instructors usually tell the dads to be by their partner's head and not look down on the opening to avoid fainting.
