Naomi Biden, the eldest grandchild of Pres. Joe Biden and the deceased Neilia Biden, confirmed she is getting married on the South Lawn of the White House in November 2022.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, July 28, 2022, Naomi said that she and her fiance, Peter Neal, have finally figured out where to hold the wedding ceremony. Initially, the young pair planned to hold just the wedding reception at the White House, as hosted by First Lady Jill Biden, but they have shifted and decided to have both the ceremony and the party in one place.

Naomi said that her wedding plans are "much to the relief of the Secret Service," per CNN. She is set to exchange vows with Neal in November.

The White House South Lawn has tennis courts and a vast green space near the White House Kitchen Garden. It's where many outdoor receptions are hosted every year, including the White House Easter Egg Roll.

First White House wedding since 1971

According to Fox News, the last wedding in the White House within a sitting president's family was during Pres. Richard Nixon's time, when his daughter, Trixia, got married to Edward F. Cox at the Rose Garden in 1971.

Pres. George W. Bush hosted a wedding reception for his daughter, Jenna Bush, and son-in-law, Henry Chase Hager, in 2008. However, they were already married a month before, at a private ceremony on the Bush family ranch in Texas.

In 2013, Pres. Barack Obama's official photographer, Pete Souza, got married to Patti Lease in the Rose Garden as well. During Pres. Donald Trump's time, the family had an engagement party for Tiffany Trump and her fiancé, Michael Boulos, also at the White House Rose Garden.

However, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarified that taxpayers would not fund the Biden-Neal wedding as it is a personal affair. She also does not know if the press will be given access to the event.

Who is Naomi Biden?

Naomi, 28, is the daughter of Hunter Biden. She was named after her father's sister, who died with her grandmother in a plane crash in 1972.

She went to the University of Pennsylvania for college and earned her Juris Doctor at Columbia Law School. Per the Washingtonian, Naomi is currently working as an associate lawyer with Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C.

When her grandfather won the presidency, Naomi joked that she was very happy to have family nearby so she could steal some food if there were none at her apartment. The Bidens are very close, and the President makes it a point to maintain a connection and relationship with his grandchildren. They said he calls each one of them on the phone as often as possible.

Naomi met her future husband in 2018 and got engaged in September 2021. Neal is often seen with the First Family at many events, including their family holidays.
