Chet Hanks Addiction Update: Dad Tom Hanks Supports Son, Says 'You Love Your Kids Unconditionally'

After releasing a series of videos and opening up about his emotional journey with trying to combat drug addiction, Chet Hanks is getting the much-needed support from none other than his father, Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the screening of his latest movie "Bridge of Spies," the two-time Academy award-winning actor went on point and addressed the issue involving his son.

"As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally," Tom said, while his voice cracked a little. "You support them every step of the way."

He also said that he applauds his son's bravery and honesty after sharing online videos where the younger Hanks came clean and revealed he's currently on rehab, as previously reported on Parent Herald.

"I've been in a rehab, right? I'm just trying to get my s--- together. And I'm doing pretty damn good," the aspiring rapper, who also goes by the name Chet Haze, said in one of the videos.

"I just really had to take a look at myself and my life and the way s*** was going...and all the crazy stupid s*** I was doing, and just finally admit to myself that it wasn't working, and I had to try something new," the 25-year old went on, according to Daily Mail, and added that he's thankful he's got his family by his side. "It's little things that I have had to learn to really appreciate," Chet added.

Chet also admitted that he's been into drugs since he was 16 years old and only last November, he achieved sobriety for almost 60 days, according to the Los Angeles Times. But over the summer, Chet was involved in a hotel trashing incident that prompted London police to look for him, according to New York Daily News.

Meanwhile, the older Hanks is set to have a busy week as his latest movie with Steven Spielberg is currently in theaters. It is the fourth time that Hanks and Spielberg are working together, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), and they only have good words for each other.

"Steven does this incredible thing when he casts you: He empowers you with the scene," Hanks told the audience in a Q & A after a screening, according to THR. "He wants you to come in with ideas that are beyond the page, beyond the text and even I think beyond the purview of your own character...Everybody is required to come up with something."

"Well, for me, everything that Tom does is a surprise to me because I don't recognize him. I know Tom so well, but I don't recognize the character he plays ... And I'm always amazed by that," Spielberg said, according to Vulture.
