Inflation relief checks are coming for some U.S. taxpayers in the form of one-time cash boost, tax credits, tax refunds, and other programs.

As expenses continue to hurt the pockets of an average American family, local governments have distributed or will soon disburse payments between $50 to $1,700, depending on the state's programs. With inflation soaring at 9.1 percent in June 2022 compared to the previous year, this windfall will provide families whose budgets will be further impacted by back-to-school expenses.

Here are the states offering inflation relief checks of some form for their residents:

California

California taxpayers can expect their inflation relief checks, also known as the middle-class tax refund, between October 2022 to January 2023. The amount will range from $200 to $1,050, depending on their income tax returns filed as of October 2021. To determine their expected payment, California locals may check with the California Franchise Tax Board. Taxpayers earning above the income limit are automatically not eligible.

Colorado

Residents of Colorado are entitled to get $750 (for single filers) or $1,500 (for joint filers) in the Colorado Cash Back rebate, mandated by the Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR).

Delaware

Delaware has been distributing $300 inflation relief check payments since May and this will continue until the rest of the summer. Those eligible are taxpayers who filed their state tax for 2021.

Florida

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the release of a $450 payment per child to help low-income families manage the rising inflation rate. Up to 60,000 families in the Sunshine State are expected to receive this cash boost, which will begin rolling out in the second week of August 2022.

According to Laura Walthall of the Florida Department of Children and Families, this will be a one-time payment that should help families prepare for their back-to-school expenses. There is no need to apply for this payment but those qualified must be part of the Guardian Assistance Program or the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Georgia

Georgia started sending payments of $250 for single filers, $375 for Head of Household, and $500 for joint filers in May. The state's Department of Revenue expects to distribute a substantial number of checks by the end of August.

Hawaii

Hawaii will begin sending the relief checks in late August for taxpayers who earn less than $100,000 (single filers) or $200,000 (joint filers) for the year. The check will be from $300 to $400.

Idaho

Idaho processed the relief payments, which are actually tax rebates, as of March 2022. Each taxpayer will get either $75 per dependent or 12 percent of their reported tax amount, whichever is higher.

Illinois

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has approved a tax credit of $50 for those who earned less than $200,000 in 2021. Families with up to three dependents will earn $100 per child, up to three children only. The relief plan has been rolling out since July 2022, per Illinois.Gov.

Indiana

Indiana has a Family Relief Plan that also started distribution in July for families making less than $200,000. Similar to Illinois, taxpayers may receive $50 and an additional $100 per dependent.

Maine

Maine's inflation relief payment worth $850 was disbursed in June and will continue until October. Gov. Janet Mills said that some families may receive up to $1,700, depending on their 2022 income tax returns.

Massachusetts

Low-income families in Massachusetts may get $250 for single filers earning $38,000 to $100,000 per year and $500 for married couples earning less than $150,000 per year. The payment will be distributed at the end of September.

New Jersey

New Jersey will give relief checks, worth $500, to residents with at least one dependent. The state has not yet determined the rollout date.

New Mexico

The inflation relief payments of New Mexico will be tied to their refundable child tax credit of up to $175 per child. Distribution started in June.

New York

At least 2.5 million New Yorkers may get a Homeowner Tax Rebate Credit (HTRC) if their income is less than $250,000 per year and if they also qualify for the 2022 STAR credit or exemption. New York residents may check if they are eligible via the state's Department of Taxation and Finance.

Oregon

From June 23 to July 11, low-income taxpayers in Oregon, or over 236,287 beneficiaries, received a one-time relief check of $600. Those who have not gotten their payments may email OneTime.AssistancePayment@DOR.oregon.gov

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is similar to New York's program and will cover property tax and rent rebates. A check amounting to $300 to $650 will go to low-income earners who make between $8,000 to $35,000.

South Carolina

South Carolina will be distributing $800 to taxpayers by the end of 2022. The amount will be based on their individual tax returns.

Virginia

Virginia locals will get their relief checks by October. This one-time payment will be worth $250 for single filers and $500 for joint filers.
