According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Americans consume approximately 2.4 burgers daily, around 50 billion burgers annually. National Cheeseburger Day is celebrated on September 18 and honors America's favorite sandwich with a slice of cheese.

In a poll comprising 2,000 self-identified hamburger enthusiasts, 58 percent admitted that they frequently order burgers when dining out. Average respondents consume more than five burgers per month, while boomers admitted eating at least three to four burgers.

Louis Ballast of Denver's Humpty Dumpty Drive-In trademarked the cheeseburger in March 1935, although restaurants from California to Kentucky have claimed credit for the famous sandwich.
