Maintaining the hair promotes healthy hygiene and self-esteem. Taking care of the hair provides longevity considering proper maintenance reduces the chance of premature hair loss. According to Black Hair Information, girls should be encouraged to care for their hair at a young age.

For young girls, getting a doll with hair that can be brushed and styled will allow them to practice hair care, which is helpful. Most kids can start taking care of their hair somewhere between 6-8 years of age with a goal of independence by 10-12, depending on the hair length and style.

Proper hair care for kids is essential as it is in their growing years that they need to take utmost care to prevent any hair problems. Hair care is critical, especially during summer and the rainy season. Black Hair Information suggests letting the child watch parents as they do their hair because as early as one or two, the baby is in the mimicking stage and will almost follow everything they do.

While they do their hair, they should let their child sit on their lap with the baby brush and allow them to do their own hair while assisting them.

Teaching young girls how to use shampoo

Putting shampoo after a long and playful day for kids is beneficial as it helps to remove dirt, debris, odors, sweat, and even smoke from outside effectively. It also helps to remove the hair's oil from sebaceous glands that perspire oil, usually called sebum, which keeps the hair moisturized. Moisturized hair tends to look not dry and frizzy.

Hair care starts with knowing how to properly wash the hair without damaging it. When the child is ready to begin shampooing, parents must ensure that steps on shampooing allow the child to develop healthy hair-care habits. Shampoo works best on wet heads and hair; thus, wet both hair and scalp with warm water before applying the shampoo.

Putting the quarter-size drop of shampoo in the hand makes it easier to apply it on both scalp and hair. Children must learn how to gently put the shampoo into the scalp. When shampooing, it's imperative to wash the scalp and the entire length of the hair.

AAD or the American Academy of Dermatology Association suggests rinsing the scalp and hair well to wash away shampoo and dirt. When done washing the hair, cover hair with a towel to absorb the water. Avoid rubbing hair dry with a towel as it causes damage and breakage.

Brushing or combing the little girls' hairs

To have healthy hair care, brushing or combing hair is also included in the process as it encourages blood flow and a healthy scalp. Equally, scalp massages in adults can promote healthy hair growth and lessen dry skin.

Parents must educate the little girls on how to properly brush their hair as it acts upon the scalp's capillaries, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles effectively. There is no exact age to start brushing the children's hair but always bear in mind to use the correct type of brush that has soft bristles, especially when brushing an infant's hair, to avoid irritating the baby's skin, per Parenting First Cry.
