Ahoy! Little pirates, as September 19 is Internation Talk Like a Pirates Day, it's your time to shine and be like the pirates you usually see on cartoons or any television shows.

According to There is a Day For That, the holiday first began in June of 1995 by Mark Summers and John Baur. The concept originated as they were leisurely playing racquetball. One of them sustained injury and immediately yelled "arrr!" to which the other one answered back using a pirate catchphrase.

The fun plays soon become a holiday that everyone seems to enjoy. Did you know that a pirate is a robber who travels by water? Many pirates targeted huge ships and launched big attacks on coastal towns. Usually, pirates are thought of as daring and evil, but in reality, pirates are ordinary people who are sadly forced to become a criminal to make ends meet. Pirates have already existed since ancient times. September 19 is talk like a pirate day, but why not turn your kids into pirates while letting them speak like one.

Here's what you need to do to look like a pirate:

DIY pirate costume

Ahoy, Matey! You don't need expensive costumes to look like a pirate. All you need is a white shirt, black shorts or bottoms, and a bandana. You can also put on some black make-up or a fake mustache.

Eye patch

If you want to look like a real pirate, you might need to make your own eye patch, as many pirates have an eye patch on their other eye. Many assume that pirates use an eye patch to cover a missing eye or an eye that was severely wounded in battle. But did you know that pirates treat eye patches as a practice to condition their eyes so they could fight in the dark?

To make a DIY eye patch, draw a pirate patch shape onto cardboard, then cut it out. Cut in the middle and use a stapler to fix it. You can use a black marker or paint on the patch and attach the elastic band on each side per Instructables.

DIY pirate hat

Pirate hats may seem complicated, but you can make one. All you will need is a black construction, tape, and some folding in the process. Tape the long edges of two sheets of black construction paper together, fold both pieces with the taped edge on the inside, and position it at the top. Give the DIY hat some shape by rounding off the corners of the hat. Draw a curve, trim it using scissors, and cut both layers simultaneously. Fold the two flaps up on either side. Glue the brim corners together. Finally, design the pirate hat the way you want.
