A miracle baby born on the day her mother died from gunshot wounds is now back home, according to ABC 12 News.

A family gathering was wrapping up in Saginaw early on June 5 when gunshots rang out, killing three people. One of the victims who passed away was pregnant. The woman may have died, but the baby she was carrying fortunately survived and is now out of the hospital.

The family is still mourning the deaths of Laura Buendia, her cousin, and her nephew. Frustration is growing as no arrests have been made in the shooting case thus far, but what is holding the family together now is Laura's little child, who they call a miracle baby.

Baby Rosie now weighs over 10 pounds

Rosalina Laura Buendia now weighs over ten pounds. Laura's daughter was a little smaller when she was born on the day of the shooting, weighing just a little over two pounds back then, according to CNN.

Josh Tello, Rosalina's dad, said that she was skin and bones and was like the size of his hand. After spending the first three and a half months of her life in the hospital, baby Rosie is now home.

According to Laura's sister, Sandra Escareno, it was a bittersweet moment for them to take the baby from the hospital because it was supposed to be Josh and her sister taking her out.

Laura was just 24 years old and expected to deliver her baby in August. She was not able to see her daughter alive as she was shot to death, along with her cousin Rafael Campos and nephew Mariano Escareño, when gunfire erupted outside the home on South 11th Street after a family gathering.

Mixed emotions for family after baby goes home

Fortunately for the unborn baby, she was not hit by gunfire and survived, according to MLive. Tello said it is amazing and a really good feeling now that she is home.

Rosie is giving her caregivers some challenging nights of sleep with her aunt Sandra saying she is a partier at about 3 a.m. She does not mind, though, as having her niece at home is like having a piece of her sister in the house.

Escareno said that if her sister were still alive, she would be so excited about being a mom and would probably be dressing her daughter every hour. Having Rosie home can't mask the pain of losing Laura, with the family still crying for justice. Police are still investigating the shooting.

Sandra said she knew who did the shooting, and so did the dead victims. She noted that all three of them cared for them, loved them, and treated them like family. Tello said there are a lot of emotions right now. He is happy but, at the same time, also sad because nothing is happening with the justice system.
