Two Men Admits Murdering 6-Year-old Boy as Human Sacrifice to Gain Prosperity

Two men confessed to murdering a six-year-old boy and used him as a human sacrifice to obtain prosperity while under the influence of drugs, according to the local authorities, News Week reported. The crime allegedly happened at a construction camp on Saturday night after the boy and his family celebrated Durga Puja, a Hindu festival honoring the goddess Durga, near South Delhi, India.

The little boy was not publicly identified but was known to live with his family at the construction camp where both of his parents worked as laborers. According to the report, the boy was walking back to their living quarter at around 10:30 p.m. when the two suspects, Vijay Kumar and Amar Kumar, called him over to the cooking area. When the young boy approached the two men, they allegedly attacked him, hitting his head and slitting his throat.

The parents told local authorities they realized their son was missing when they couldn't find him as they were heading back to their sheds. As both parents were panicking, the father suddenly noticed blood oozing out of their shed, and when he opened the door, he discovered his son's body beneath the cot.

"Wished to please the gods"

Authorities have arrested the two suspects and registered the case as a murder. Police added they recovered the knife used in the alleged murder, including the clothes worn by the suspects at the time of the killing. Vijay Kumar told local authorities that he became disillusioned after consuming "prasad," a religious food offering in Hinduism. Adding that he believed he needed to make a human sacrifice to gain prosperity, thus, decided to kill the boy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandan Choudhary said Vijay had a vision about the murder. He consumed drugs and approached some women for incense sticks. However, they refused to accept his offer. Thus, he went back and suddenly saw a god in his vision. The accused revealed in the disclosure documents that he picked up the child and murdered him inside the shed.

The police stated in a report that the two men had consumed smack or ganja and wished to please the gods.

The father, who was not identified due to personal reasons, said the young boy had always dreamed of schooling and would have joined the school with his sister soon as they had only recently moved to South Delhi.

Children as human sacrifice took the lives of scores of kids as it is carried out for religious reasons, per Des Moines Register.

Child sacrifice is a form of torture

The United Nations have called out the government and the Human Rights Council, particularly in those countries that consider child sacrifice as part of religious matters. It emphasized that the so-called witch doctors and traditional healers continue to sacrifice children by torturing and killing them.

The agency noted these incidents are harmful traditional practices. Some practices are sometimes protected even by authorities and neglected by states due to power. Humanists International said these practices are dangerous and violate basic human rights.
