The actress opened up about stepparenting and admitted having one regret when she became the stepmother of her husband's two children.

Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Brad Falchuk guested on The Goop Podcast last Tuesday to discuss aging, motherhood, marriage, and stepparenting. The actress was honest with her vulnerability as she took on the role of stepmother to Falchuk's two children - teenage daughter Isabella and son Brody, sharing that she regretted the feeling of "trepidation" during the start.

The 50-year-old actress admitted that she stepped into the role of being a stepmother "on tenterhooks." She said that there was anxiousness, fear, and tension, knowing that there is "no playbook" for how to become one and how to do the role perfectly.

Hesitancy can ruin it

"I don't know, I think there's like this archetypal evil stepmother and this inference that it's going to be this fraught thing, so I think I came into it on tenterhooks, like, 'Oh my Gosh.' It's like you can only kind of do the wrong thing, especially because your kids were more resistant," People quoted.

Falchuk, 51, also admitted that his children were "hesitant" to add another person to their "great little pack" when he and Paltrow married. The couple, who just celebrated their 4th anniversary, ultimately realized that Paltrow's "hesitancy" about the situation caused the children to freak out too about their new situation.

And that was her only regret. When she started to take the courage to stand up and say that these are her kids too and she loves them and was determined not to be scared anymore to discipline them or draw the line, everything shifted.

Being a stepmom was an "interesting" challenge for the actress, and all in all, she's grateful because she learned so much about herself in the process.

Her advice for stepparents

From the start, stepparents should treat the children as their own, Paltrow's advice for stepmoms and stepdads.

She said to set aside the trepidation and give yourself entirely as a parent with all the love, acceptance, and boundaries.

Falchuk complimented Paltrow as "a spectacular stepmom" who has a relationship with the children outside of his own, citing that they talk to her all the time, come to her for advice and rely on her.

The amazing mama recently celebrated her 50th birthday and took to Instagram to post a photo of herself naked and painted in gold from a "provocative" photoshoot that ushered her golden year. The People magazine praised her for taking the "birthday suit" to a whole new level of awesomeness.

The founder of Goop said that she feels so good turning 50 years old. She decided on the photoshoot to express the sense of energy and optimism that her 50-year-old is enjoying.
