'Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Spoilers: Paul Wesley Teases Love Triangle For Stefan & Caroline; Ian Somerhalder Reveals Damon Loves Bonnie As A Friend [Details]

Many are concerned about how "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will proceed now that the classic romance between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will no longer be featured. However, new reports present several reasons, why fans should stick with the popular TV series.

Earlier reports claim that Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline's (Candice King) relationship will be tested in the new season. As to how, Wesley teases that his character might be caught between two ladies again, International Business Times learned.

Wesley hinted that although Stefan's relationship with Caroline is the main romance in the beginning of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, a woman from his past will return. That woman will come between him and Caroline.

"Now that Elena is gone, that is sort of the romance story of Season 7," Wesley told Just Jared. "Well, there's another chick that comes into Stefan's life that creates a bit of a divide. Someone from his past. He's got eyes on Caroline, but someone from his past ..."

Furthermore, Wesley revealed that Elena will still be a big part of the story. The actor hinted that Elena's body is in danger in the first few episodes and Damon will be doing his best to protect her, if and in case, she wakes up.

Wesley also admitted that they are aware that Elena remains to be a favorite character, despite Dobrev's announcement that she is leaving the show. "We all had imagined this complete reboot where Elena was gone, but she's talked about so much!," he added.

Meanwhile, with Elena gone, some are considering if a potential romance between Damon and Bonnie will come to life. Elena will only wake up if Bonnie dies, but with Dobrev gone on the show, will the character ever wake up again?

In a separate report from International Business Times, the Bamon romance is far from reality because Damon will be missing Elena that he almost put the life of the Bennet witch in danger.

Somerhalder in an interview with TV Fanatic, revealed that Damon and Bonnnie will remain good friends. The actor added that Damon loves Bonnie but only as a friend, Design&Trend has learned.

"Every time he looks at Bonnie, he only sees not Elena. He does love her and it is an unfortunate situation that they find themselves in because it's that thing of every time he looks at her, 'Oh, if I just push her down the building I'd get Elena back,'" Somerhalder explained.

For this reason, Damon will be protecting Bonnie in the entire season in different ways.

Somerhalder also shared that his character will "come face-to-face with death more than once" in the new season.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 premieres on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on CW network.
