A 17-year-old boy unexpectedly died after he collapsed during a choir event in Naperville, Illinois on Friday, October 14.

NBC Chicago reported that Daniel Moshi was performing at the All State Honors Show Choir for the Illinois American Choral Directors Association at Naperville North High School when the senior at Leyden High School in District 212 became unconscious.

Daniel's father, Loden Moshi, told the media outlet that he got the call from his musical teacher and she said there was an incident. She told Loden that Daniel was singing his solo rehearsal and he collapsed and now they have given him CPR and taken him to one hospital.

Coroner's office still investigating Moshi's death

Daniel's mom, Karolin, said that her son seemed normal when she dropped him off at school. Karolin also said that Daniel gave her an update when he and the other students arrived at the high school for their choir show.

Daniel texted Karolin that he was there at around five o'clock approximately. Karolin asked him if everything was good and Daniel replied to his mom that it was all good. According to Naperville fire officials, they responded to the high school at around 6:18 p.m. for an unconscious 17-year-old boy.

Bystanders performed CPR on Moshi when they arrived. The teen was then taken to Edwards Medical Center, where he later died, according to TODAY.

Moshi's cause of death has not been released by authorities. The DuPage County coroner's office is still investigating the teen's death. According to Daniel's family, he had plans to attend college next year and also had hopes of performing on Broadway.

Hundreds of people gather for Moshi's funeral service

Karolin said the death of her son is hard and it is not easy. She described their son as someone who is honest, pure and lovable. She added that she does not know how to explain it. They were supposed to buy him a car and now they are actually doing his funeral. Karolin said it is not easy for any parent to go through this because they still don't have answers.

A spokesperson for Leyden High School issued a statement, saying that students and staff are grieving the death of Daniel. The statement said that they encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out to a trusted adult and their Student Services department is available to provide support. The statement added that they are also asking everyone to look after each other during this difficult time.

Hundreds of people, including friends, parishioners, and family gathered on Wednesday morning for an emotional funeral service for Moshi. Many attendees wore blue at the funeral which was the favorite color of Daniel. He was the choir alto lead singer at St. Andrew's Assyrian Church in Glenview. The service for Moshi was carried out mostly in Assyrian, according to the Chicago Tribune.
