Although the pillow appears to be soft, it can severely hurt someone if you slam a pillow into someone and would literally knock the crap out of them. Kevin Reed, Engineer and contributor of MadSci says he was hit by a pillow in the face and the resulting impact was enough to fracture a tooth and added that there is a lot in the medical literature concerning pillow fights.

International Pillow Fight Day lands on April 2, and this hallowed occasion is all about whacking and smacking your loved ones with your preferred feather-filled weapon of choice. Pillow fights can actually lead to some serious trouble; Lawrence Cohen, a psychologist in Boston, on the other hand, says that play looks a lot different now as many preferred to follow their own instructions or directions when playing specifically in pillow fights. Furthermore, many do not notice the weight they will about to give the other person by whacking them using a pillow, which means, the result could be unexpected.

Stuart Tindall, a contributor to Quora, says that she and her sister were fighting with a feather pillow but unfortunately, her sister hit her in the right spot a quill of a feather was sticking out of the casing. The hit immediately penetrated the skin causing some flood to come out before they got a compress on it. Adding that her sister, fortunately, missed any major vessels so massive blood didn't come out. Stuart believes that it is possible to kill someone during a pillow fight and advises everyone to stick to synthetic fill and as much as possible, avoid playing such sport as you will never know the outcome of it.

Whacking a pillow or pillow fight could possibly kill

When someone hit you either in the face or the head, the impact of it can affect the brain itself into the hard bone and can cause a concussion. A study by McIntosh and Patton showed that Amateur International Boxing Association or AIBA says that head guards approved play an important role in lessening the risk of concussion and other superficial injuries.

Bob Singer, Satellite Ops Engineer, told Quora that if you hit someone in a weak spot such as the eye or throat, you could immediately put someone in the hospital. Although, the one playing does not intend to harm someone. Some pillows are stuffed with fabric that can also trigger allergies in some individuals. Moreover, some might forget the consequence of it, thus, while playing, you can jokingly press someone down too hard which can cause suffocation and also a panic attack.

Schuelke Law says that pillow fight not only gives one a traumatic brain injury but can possibly kill due to huge impact as repeated impacts can gradually destroy the brain and establish the ideal environment for degenerative brain disease, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

What are the possible signs of a brain injury?

The signs and symptoms do not usually happen right away but can appear hours or days after an injury. One might experience headaches, dizziness, not being able to remember what happened, being slow to answer some questions, and saying things that don't really make sense.
