A brawl at a DeSoto County school has one mom concerned about the safety of her daughter. The incident also has the school district looking to prosecute another mother who was involved in the fight on campus.

FOX13 spoke to Shemeka Stringer regarding the fight. The Lake Cormorant parent said that she does not understand how it happened. Stringer said that she wants answers after an adult managed to get on campus at Lake Cormorant High School to help another girl in a fight against her daughter.

Stringer said it is a different kind of jumped when it is two kids compared to when it is an adult and two kids. According to Stringer, a woman in grey pants and top punched her daughter multiple times during the fight that happened last Wednesday.

Stringer noted that the woman was the mom of another girl and she was there to help the kid fight her daughter, who is in ninth grade. According to Stringer, her daughter did not want to fight. She added that her main concern is the security at the school. She is concerned that anybody is being able to walk in the high school.

Desoto County Schools said the fight happened as the school was being dismissed. The district said they are pushing for the maximum penalty for the mother who was involved in the brawl, WREG reported.

Stringer said the woman was in the school at dismissal and followed her daughter out. Stringer has just sent her daughter back to school but her concerns remain regarding her safety. She said that she is not so sure her daughter is protected. She is also worried for every child in the building and not just her child as she is not sure the officer assigned to Lake Cormorant High School is doing their job.

Mom allowed to leave campus following fight against girl student

The Desoto County Sheriff's Department charged the four students involved in the fight with simple assault, but those charges have since been dropped. According to the sheriff's department, a warrant has been issued for the parent involved in the brawl with charges of trespassing filed against her.

Other possible charges are still pending at this stage. Stringer said she is bothered by the fact that the mom involved in the fight was allowed to leave campus following the brawl. She said the mother should not have walked out of that school building that very day without being in handcuffs.

Stringer told WMC that she was heading to pick up dinner when her daughter suddenly called her. Stringer said she was literally screaming, saying that she was just attacked by an older adult.

Also getting involved in the case is the DeSoto County NAACP. Officials said their involvement in the teen's case is out of concern for the campus' safety and security.
