The Wooden Cloud Crochet Mobile Clips with Organza Bag has been recently recalled by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) as it presents a high risk of choking as its small parts, particularly the crochet hard balls on a string can easily detached when the product is used. The product recalled is being sold via Etsy.

A little kid may place a small part in their mouth that may go unnoticed by the parents or carers. This may result into the ingested toy blocking the child's airways. Moreover, the product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

This product is a wooden button hanging dump clip with an attached wooden cloud shape and yarn-covered balls on the cord and is supplied with a mesh storage bag at the same time. Although the product seems to be entertaining particularly to kids, it still poses a risk.

Crocheted toys: Are they safe for babies?

Crochets themselves are considered safe for babies. However, keep in mind that there are certain parts that are not considered safe such as the safety eyes, small balls, and more. Babies and children like to suck and chew on things, making the toy's small parts dangerous, particularly to children.

As much as possible, do not choose toys that have parts that are sewn or buttoned as they can come off as time passes. The outlet also advises those who make crochet to always ensure the placement of the crocheted facial features and use a small amount only of washable fabric glue to place those features as desired and securely sew them in place.
