A father from New Jersey killed his family before taking his own life in what looked like a murder-suicide incident.

Krzysztof Nieroda, 41, from New Jersey, allegedly killed his wife, a beautician named Justyna, and their two children, 13-year-old Natalie and 14-year-old Sebastian, at their home on Chatham Place.

The New York Post reported that the police were notified of a Sunday shooting on Chatham Place at 9:30 A.M.

Upon arrival, the authorities found the father lifeless with the weapon in his hand.

They also discovered the bodies of the rest of the Nieroda family. Sebastian was still alive when found and was taken to the University Hospital in Newark. However, Sebastian eventually passed away from his injuries.

According to police reports, Krzysztof Nieroda called an unidentified relative on the phone to confess his actions shortly after committing the crime. He had shot himself once in the head following the phone call.

The incident, which took place in a beige bungalow near a park, left neighbors shocked as authorities searched for a motive.

Following the tragedy, the Linden School District has arranged to provide grief counselors for students and staff at McManus Middle School, where Natalie was in the seventh grade, and Sebastian was in the eighth.

Superintendent Rocco G. Tomazic expressed his condolences, acknowledging that the loss of any student affects the entire community.

He also emphasized the importance of responding with empathy, understanding, and care in the face of such a tragedy.

New Jersey, Linden community mourns the family

According to CBS, a memorial for the Nieroda family has been growing on their front lawn, with students and teachers from the children's middle school coming by to pay their respects.

Friends of Sebastian paid their respects by riding their bikes to the family's home in honor of the group rides they did together. They described Sebastian as someone who loved video games and soccer.

The neighbors shared that the family was very normal, and their children were wonderful. They enjoyed going on outdoor activities together, including camping, skiing, and long weekend trips with a trailer attached to their car.

One neighbor even mentioned that the family had recently renovated their kitchen. Leszek Daszykowski, another neighbor, said that according to friends, the father's business was going very well.

The police officers were still investigating the motive for the shooting. The community finds it extremely difficult to cope with the tragedy, as the family appears to be a typical and happy one.

According to News12, Mayor Derek Armstead said that extra grief counselors would be available at the middle school to help classmates as they try to process this tragedy.

He also emphasized that there are simply no words to describe the trauma, heartbreak, and sorrow that the community is experiencing.

Gov. Phil Murphy has released a statement stating that his staff closely monitors the shooting incident.

The community is still in disbelief and mourning the loss of the Nieroda family, and their lives significantly impacted their neighbors and community.
