In response to safety concerns, retail giant Target has issued a recall for approximately 5 million Threshold brand candles. The recall comes after numerous reports of cracked candles during burning, resulting in injuries to consumers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has urged customers to discontinue the use of these candles immediately and return them to any Target store for a refund. This recall affects various scents and sizes of Threshold glass jar candles sold between August 2019 and March 2023.

Candle Safety Tips for Home Use

According to the National Candle Association, to ensure a safe and enjoyable candle-burning experience with Threshold candles or any other candles at home, it is important to follow these essential safety tips.

Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to ¼ inch to promote even burning and prevent dripping or flaring. It is crucial to use a heat-resistant, sturdy candle holder that can catch melted wax or drips to prevent accidents.

When choosing the environment for candle burning, opt for well-ventilated rooms to minimize uneven burning, and excessive dripping. It is advisable to avoid placing candles in drafty areas or near flammable materials to reduce the risk of fire or accidents.

During candle burning, never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep to prevent potential fire hazards.

When it comes to extinguishing candles, use a candle snuffer for a safe method that prevents hot wax from splattering. Avoid using water to extinguish a candle, as it can cause the wax to splatter and potentially break the container.

By following these important candle safety tips, you can create a cozy and serene atmosphere with threshold candles or any other candles at home while prioritizing the safety of yourself, your family, and your surroundings.
