Yarl, who sustained a traumatic brain injury when he was shot in the head and arm, joined his family and fellow survivors at the "Going the Distance for Brain Injury" event held on Monday in Overland Park, Kansas.

Additionally, Spoonmore stated that Yarl, who was shot in his own neighborhood, is not emotionally prepared to return home and has been residing with Spoonmore and her family.

Spoonmore shared that Yarl feels uneasy about going back to the area and his own house, despite the fact that it holds cherished memories for him.

It is regrettable that he is unable to find comfort in his own home due to the traumatic incident.

The mistaken shooting incident occurred on the evening of April 13 in Kansas City, Missouri, when Yarl accidentally went to the wrong address to pick up his siblings.

As previously reported by CNN, Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old white man, was charged with felony assault in the first degree and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting.

Despite the global attention the incident garnered and subsequent rallies and protests in the Kansas City area, Lester pleaded not guilty and was released on bond.

Yarl's participation in the Memorial Day event not only shed light on the personal struggles faced by individuals with traumatic brain injuries but also underscored the importance of community support and advocacy.
