The homeowner, showing commendable courage and a keen instinct to safeguard his loved ones, had taken control of the situation by keeping the erratic intruder at bay using his firearm.

Providing their account of that night, the homeowners described their sudden awakening. Piercing through the silent night were loud, disruptive noises from their home's ground floor. Understandably panicked but determined to ensure his family's safety, the male homeowner made the swift decision to arm himself. Simultaneously, he signaled his wife to alert the authorities, ensuring that law enforcement was informed and en route.

The situation inside was beyond anything the homeowners could have anticipated. The intruder, later identified as Alvin Ducheneaux, seemed to be on a reckless spree, tossing toys around and scattering clothes haphazardly in their daughter's bedroom.
The homeowners were relieved, albeit in a small way, that their daughter wasn't present in the room during this unsettling episode. When confronted about his bizarre actions, Ducheneaux, in his intoxicated haze, tried to justify his presence by claiming he was searching for some clothes.

The aftermath of his intrusion wasn't just limited to the emotional turmoil he induced. There were tangible damages too. A broken shoe rack stood as evidence of his drunken antics, and the homeowners estimated $200 in damage to their daughter's room due to his reckless behavior.

Joining the dots and considering Ducheneaux's severe intoxication, the homeowners considered the possibility that this entire event might be a case of mistaken identity. They theorized that Ducheneaux might have believed he was entering another house, possibly a neighboring residence.

Facing the repercussions of his actions, Ducheneaux is now confronted with a slew of charges: burglary, night (Class B felony), criminal mischief, willful damage (Class B misdemeanor), disorderly conduct, and offensive condition (Class B misdemeanor). Ducheneaux's current circumstances see him confined within the county jail, awaiting his fate as his bail is pegged at $5,000.
