Urgent Recall Alert: Lead Contamination Risk in Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches by Two Brands

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent update to its earlier recall of fruit puree pouches over concerns of potential lead contamination.
This expansion now includes Schnucks-branded pouches found at Schnucks and Eatwell Markets, as well as Weis-branded pouches sold at Weis Markets. They join the WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree, already recalled last month, which was distributed by numerous retailers such as Sam's Club, Amazon, and Dollar Tree.

Adverse Events Prompting Action

The FDA's report of seven adverse events across five states-Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, and North Carolina-highlighted the severity of the situation. This concerning development followed an investigation by North Carolina health officials into four children who exhibited elevated blood lead levels.
