Child Abuse Survivor Gypsy Rose Blanchard Granted With an Early Release

Numerous people following this tragic case were surprised as Gypsy Rose Blanchard was granted early release on December 28 after serving seven years in prison. She is now 32 and has left the confines of the prison three years ahead of her scheduled release date.

The Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed her departure, which has reignited public debate over the nuances of her case, from suffering severe child abuse from her own mother and a murder conviction that stunned the country.

In 2015, Blanchard and her then-boyfriend, Godejohn, plotted the killing of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, after she decided she has had enough of constant suffering. She was then sentenced to serve 10 years in prison and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

This case revealed the disturbing reality of Munchhausen syndrome by proxy, a form of abuse Blanchard suffered at the hands of her mother, culminating in a desperate act of violence.

A Life Marred by Deception and Suffering

Throughout her childhood and teen years up until the committed murder, Gypsy Rose Blanchard's upbringing was overshadowed by extreme child abuse orchestrated by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.

Dee Dee Blanchard was under the belief that her daughter Gypsy had numerous health problems and required constant medical attention. This led to her daughter having numerous operations and unnecessary medical interventions due to her mother's complaint. Blanchard received medication for certain ailments and anti-seizure medication, as well as prompting her to use an oxygen tank and wheelchair even if she did not need it.

The mother was believed to have suffered from Munchhausen syndrome by proxy, which is a mental illness wherein a parent believes or makes the assumption that their child is medically sick in order to get satisfaction from the attention they are getting.

The psychological, emotional, and physical stress that her mother caused her left Gypsy Rose in a state of isolation and helplessness throughout her life, prompting the incident.
